|Penang Street Arts | Wall Paintings & Wrought Iron Caricatures - Spot All of Them!|
George Town Heritage City TourFor city dwellers, it sounds like we are always the first to know when it comes to the new stuff in town. The reality however is the opposite. I live on the beautiful tropical island of Penang and George Town is our capital city, also a site of UNESCO World Heritage. The challenge of confronting the bustling traffic discourage people like me who live beyond 10 kilometers radius of George Town to move around, aside from commuting between home to work place.
Penang Street ArtsOne day, I decided to call myself a tourist in my own town. With bikes on truck, we hit the road and headed to the core zone of George Town. Armed with a camera, I aimed to trace the local folk tales through street arts. Mural or wall paintings and wrought-iron caricatures, they speak out loud as if Penang George Town is alive. Blending on the walls of pre-war or colonial buildings, these latest George Town attractions are scattered over the core zone congregated mainly Chew Jetty, Armenian Street, Chulia Street, Love Lane, Acheh Street, Muntri Street and Pitt Street.
Most of wall paintings are contributed by Ernest Zacharevic and our local artist - Simon Tan, they are not only unique, entertaining, charming but also humorous like voices of the past while blending history and arts.
