|Penang Bukit Jambul Hiking Trail|
Penang Hiking Trail Established more than two decades ago, Bukit Jambul Hiking Trail has been there to serve avid hikers in south-eastern of the island particularly Sungai Dua, Sungai Nibong, Bayan Baru and Relau neighborhoods. Bukit Jambul Hiking Trail starts from the road intersection slightly opposite Inti College. Less than 5 minutes walk from Equatorial Hotel or Bukit Jambul Country Club, a stone arch touting 'Kawasan Mendaki Bukit Jambul' (literally means Bukit Jambul Hiking Area) gives one the mark to begin on paved road.
After passing the stone arch, a few meters walk uphill, there is a dirt trail branching out from paved trail, offering the first option to conquer over rocks, steep terrain as one grips on ropes at some places trekking up to Bukit Pasir. If you continue on the paved trail until the cul-de-sac, there is another option to climb up. This route to the top however, is mostly made of steps.
I prefer ascending to the top following the former trail whilst going down on the latter though there is no traffic rule for all the Bukit Jambul hiking trails going up Bukit Pasir. Great outdoor indulgent in the tropic, the hiking trails here are shady throughout the day, provided by dense jungle made of many rubber trees , durian and others. Sometimes, one may spot squirrels running around or monkeys hanging on the branches. Good to go in a pack, unless you're familiar with the routes.
For fitness enthusiasts, the ascending journey to the summit takes about 10 to 15 minutes. At the top of Bukit Pasir, there is a open-gym, a tea kiosk and a bathroom where hikers can recharge and refuel. On a good day, it offers a sight of beautiful sunrise across the sea, behind the panoramic view of ridges on Peninsular Malaysia's mainland, Pulau Jerejak, Penang Bridge and Bayan Baru particularly the south-eastern part of Penang island including the second Penang Bridge.
