|Taiping Zoo | What To Expect & Things To Do For Kids|
Taiping ZooTaiping Zoo is one of the best places to take kids for an outing if you live or happen to visit the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia. For folks from Ipoh or Penang, traveling to Taiping is only an hour away so you and family do not have to think of Taiping hotel for lodging unless you're planning for more things to do with kids such as hiking up Maxwell Hill or biking circling the scenic Taiping Lake Gardens in this former mining town.
Taiping Zoo is open daily from 8:30am to 7:30pm and the last admission is by 6pm. For the best time to visit the zoo with kids is certainly in the morning. Arriving about 9 to 9:30am is perfect, you're likely to catch the animals being fed. Not many are aware that Taiping is the rain-city of Malaysia. Being the spot that catches the highest rainfall every year, Taiping is usually greeted by afternoon shower, from drizzling, moderate to cats and dogs. Huts and benches are sprinkled everywhere in the zoo but expect no restaurant or high chair for your family and kids. Additionally, food choices are pretty limited inside the zoo, only light refreshments are served so it is best to end your visit around noon and head for lunch outside.
Though Taiping Zoo is not as large as Zoo Negara, it is not small either. Strangely, we can't locate a single Taiping Zoo map whether in the form of brochure or right after we'd entered the premise. If you're taking your baby or toddler, bring along your stroller, even just to store kid's stuff and diaper bag. The paved walkway is wheel-friendly. If this is your visit first, taking the tram ride is worth to have an idea of the whole place. Spot the places of your interest and you can always come back later on foot.
A Walk Into Nature at Taiping ZooWalking with your tykes is undoubtedly the best way to explore this animal kingdom, as it is a great exercise for a whole family. This is also the window of opportunity to sight the exotic animals within steps away. Ready with your photography or videography gears, aplenty chances to catch your kids and the animals in action. Getting up-close and personal with nature, this brings little kids to see owls, feed deers, observe the behaviors of monkeys or macaques, spot the sleeping crocodiles, swimming tigers, flying birds, tease orang utan and certainly more. Most of these animals are placed in open enclosures mimicking their natural habitats, separating from visitors by merely fences, moats or railings.
Expect to walk about 3 to 4 hours if you wish to have a complete visit. Not everyone can make in a single trip, therefore drop by the central recreational area to catch some breathe. Most folks flock here as this open shade offers some benches to unwind, restrooms to let go and a children playground for the energetic little ones to continue, all within steps away. If you're traveling with schooling kids, it is not an impossible mission to complete your tour on foot. In fact, blend in some games such as guessing animal name. The first person who can name the animal whether he/she reads the signpost or from plain memory will collect a point. In the end of your visit, sum the points, give a great prize to the winner and this certainly makes your visit to Taiping Zoo a memorable one!
