|Korean Cafe Gil @ Ivory Plaza USM Penang|

We came to know about Korean Cafe Gil from Nina. She told us that it sits adjacent to Nasi Kandar Istimewa at Ivory Plaza next to USM campus in Jalan Bukit Gambir. Food, ambiance and price, all these sound reasonable thus prompted us to walk into this restaurant on a Saturday evening.
With white color wall, the interior is contemporary with lots cute collectibles, photo and posters of Korean stars. Menu is presented in both Korean and English with most main starts from RM8-10 and each beverage cost between RM4-6. If you're looking for BBQ, go for Bulgogi (it actually means grilled marinated meats) though the hot plate is not taking place on your dining table. Kimchi, tofu and seafood in the variety to go with pancakes, noodles, rice or even glass noodles.
Open from Monday through Saturday, the restaurant indicated strictly: No MSG, no alcohol and no pork. Despite brief dishes, the food somehow reminds me of the home style Korean that we used to visit at Han Yang Korean Market in Austin, TX.
In less than a month, we had visited thrice and sampled Bulgogi Rice, Korean Pancake, Spicy Noodles, Spicy Rice and even their hot plate fish waffles.
One of our recent bills:
Boo Chim Gae - Korean Pancake RM8.50
Bulgogi Dupbap RM10.00
Kimchi Jjigyeo RM9.50
Strawberry Shake RM6
Looks reasonable? On top of that, there is no service charge. The figures stated on menu is the net price.
