|Penang Chinese Restaurant | Goh Teo Kee Teochew Cuisine @ Sungai Nibong|

To our surprise, the patrons were not as many as before. Only a couple tables were occupied as we walked in about noon. Most tables were empty hence we could even pick a corner for privacy. The last time we were here, I remembered it was crowded, bustling, chatting foodies as much as the scene of a typical Chinese restaurant in Penang or anywhere in world.
As soon as we got seated, we noticed there was only one menu on our table. Self-service, we went ahead to grab a few more from other tables. The waitress who were taking our order sounded impatiently although no one had walked into the restaurant after us. Impassionate to assist us to pick the dishes, instead she wanted us to instantaneously make up our mind. Zooming into set menu for 6-8 pax, we finally went for RM168 package. It was offered with Atlantic Cod fish, Seafood claypot, Herbal Chicken, soft-crab in Thai sauce from Supreme selection and both fried oyster omelet and stir-fried spicy water spinach from House of Specialty selection. Green bean soup was the desserts of the day. Free flow of Chinese tea or water on the house as which we came to learn on the bill without any prior notification.
As expected, dishes arrived promptly. Serving size was not large, a bit of everything, just sufficient for small eaters of our family. However, the quality seems deteriorating compares to the last time we visited this restaurant, perhaps a year or two ago. Ingredients are not of luxury version despite of the overwhelmed price. We expected a superior quality of Cod fish compared to what was served on our table. Slices of carrots and lentils were hard, as if uncooked. Same went for sea cucumbers, they were tough, not very well-cooked as texture proved it as I took a bit.
Speaking of service, I wonder what happen to the old good staff. Servers were totally inexperienced or naive. How could they present a platter of forks right in front of a toddler? The same happened when they served steamed rice and hot tea. Unbelievable for such a 'reputable' restaurant, they paid no attention to petty things that meant a big deal to patrons.
Now, it makes sense to me why the number of their customers are declining significantly. The food and the service – they tell us the truths of everything! The consolation is my pictures, they turned out impressive.
